devils stanley cup wins
As the Boston Bruins march towards their first Stanley Cup in nearly forty years, they face off against the Vancouver Canucks, who are making their first appearance in the Finals in 17 years. The Bruins have had a remarkable season, overcoming injuries and losing key players to win the Eastern Conference. The Canucks, meanwhile, have been the best team in the NHL all season, with a Hart Trophy candidate (Henrik Lundqvist) in goal and an MVP (Daniel Sedin) on offense. Who will win the Stanley Cup? It’s anyone’s game, but there are a few things that could give the Bruins an advantage.
The Stanley Cup is a trophy awarded annually to the National Hockey League (NHL) playoff champion. It is the oldest professional sports trophy in North America. Originally commissioned in 1892 as the Dominion Hockey Challenge Cup, the trophy was renamed in 1917 to honor Sir Frederick Stanley, the minor league governor-general of Canada who had donated the cup to the NHL. The first Cup was awarded in 1893 to Montreal HC, who defeated Ottawa HC three games to one in a best-of-five series.
In what might go down as one of the most shocking turnarounds in NHL history, the Devils pulled off a stunning Stanley Cup victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday night. Trailing 3-0 in the series, New Jersey managed to win four consecutive games and claim the cup in a thrilling 6-1 victory. The Devils were led by captain Zach Parise, who scored twice in the deciding game, and goaltender Martin Brodeur, who was simply sensational throughout the playoffs. It was a remarkable victory for New Jersey, and one that will be remembered for years to come.
