On December 8, 2017, the Miami Heat unveiled their new “cotton candy” jerseys. The jerseys were designed to resemble the popular carnival treat, and quickly generated a lot of buzz on social media. But the story behind the jerseys is even more interesting than the design itself. It all started with a contest that the team held on social media a few months earlier. Fans were asked to submit designs for the new jerseys, and the winning entry was submitted by 26-year-old graphic designer Tyler J. Smith. When he found out that his design had been chosen, Tyler said, “I’m still in shock. I can’t believe it. I’m a huge Miami Heat fan, and it’s just insane that my design is going to be on TV.” The jerseys are now available for purchase on the Miami Heat’s website.
